Making a Difference, One Community at a Time

Our efforts have yielded tangible results, fostering harmony and understanding in communities where we have been running our programs. Through programs like the Xenophobia Fighters Awards and Dlala Sport, Art, and Culture Regional Extravaganza, we’ve promoted cultural exchange and social cohesion among African youths. Communities like Soweto have seen a significant reduction in xenophobic incidents, thanks to our proactive initiatives in these areas. Here are some of the key impacts of our work:

  • Zandspruit Community: ICU successfully mediated between conflicting groups, leading to a long-lasting peace where residents now live in harmony.
  • Rustenburg Community: Our mediation resolved severe clashes over employment disputes, ensuring fair practices and reducing tensions between local residents and workers from other countries.
  • Ekurhuleni’s Greater Reigpark: Intensive mediation efforts have mitigated long-standing community violence, fostering a safer environment for all.
  • Diepsloot Community: ICU’s interventions have significantly reduced social violence, creating a more peaceful and cohesive community.

Some of our achievements

Enhanced Social Cohesion

Communities previously affected by social tensions now exhibit stronger bonds and mutual respect.

Increased Awareness and Tolerance

Educational and cultural exchange programs like Dlala Sport have enlightened participants about diverse cultures, reducing prejudice.

Community Empowerment

Our initiatives have empowered local leaders and youth to take an active role in promoting unity and addressing social issues.

Strengthened Local Institutions

By working closely with local authorities and community organizations, ICU has helped build the capacity of these institutions to manage conflicts and promote sustainable peace independently.
